In-House Legal Counsel (Corporate)

The Opportunity:
Our client is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its outstanding team in Brampton, Ontario as they continue to expand. Reporting to the General Counsel and working closely with business leaders, the Legal Counsel will play an essential role in providing legal guidance to the business mainly related to financial services (real estate financing, equipment financing, and invoice factoring) and real estate transactions (acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, and development), as well as a variety of general corporate commercial work. The ideal candidate will be a business minded lawyer with 3-6 years’ experience in financial services and lending, and/or real estate.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal support on secured and unsecured lending transactions including real estate and equipment financings – negotiate and prepare security and related loan documents

  • Provide legal support on real estate matters (acquisitions, dispositions, development, and leasing)

  • General corporate commercial work including negotiating and drafting relevant commercial agreements, resolutions, governance, and corporate entity maintenance and compliance

  • Provide legal support to various business arms including insurance, hospitality and franchising

  • Work closely with business leaders, teams and stakeholders

  • Manage external counsel and other relevant professional advisors


Skills and Experience:

  • 3-6 years of relevant experience (financial services and/or real estate) gained in a law firm and/or in-house environment  

  • Commercially minded, flexible, and adaptable

  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills

  • Ability to work on a variety of tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines

  • Team player with a strong work ethic and client service mentality

  • Self-starter with sound business acumen, communication and problem-solving skills
